Tournament details for the CS:GO Intel Extreme Masters World Championship Katowice 2017
World-class CS:GO returns to Katowice! Intel Extreme Masters will once again host a CS:GO tournament in the Spodek arena with the world’s top teams competing in front of thousands of passionate fans for a US$250,000 prize pool. Here’s how the tournament is going to look like.
Format: 12 team tournament
A total of 12 teams will compete at the tournament who will be divided into two groups of 6. The group stage will be played in a round robin bo1 format. Top three teams from each group will advance to the playoffs with the teams who placed first advancing directly to the semifinals.
Dates: March 1st-5th
The group stage will take place on March 1-2 without a live audience . On March 3-5, we will move to the stage of the Spodek arena with the playoff matches.
Teams: 8 invites, 4 from qualifiers
A total of twelve teams will compete at IEM Katowice 2017. Eight teams will receive direct invitations while the remaining four will be decided through qualifiers: three from EU and one from NA.
Qualifiers: Three slots for EU, one for NA
Four slots will be filled through the qualifiers: three teams from EU and one from NA. The qualifiers will have an open and closed stage. The first round of the closed stage will be seeded according to the World Ranking. The European qualifiers will consist of two open and one closed qualifier, while the North American qualifier will have one open and one closed qualifier.
